The employer can designate an experienced aerial lift operator to train and certify employees. OSHA does not list any specific qualification requirements for aerial lift trainers, but ANSI 92.24-2018 states aerial lift trainers must be:
A person who, by possession of an appropriate technical degree, certificate, professional standing, or skill, and who, by knowledge, training, and experience, has demonstrated the ability to deal with problems relating to the subject matter, the work, or the project. This person must also be experienced with the particular classification of MEWP and knowledgeable regarding the laws, regulations, safe us practices, manufacturers requirements, and recognition and hazard avoidance of hazards associated with the MEWPs.

Step One
Get Aerial Lift Training
The Aerial Lift Operator Training DVD Compliance Kit meets the aerial lift certification requirements of 29 CFR 1926.453 and ANSI 92.24 2018. It is available as an immediate download and also by mail on DVD/CD.
Step Two
Designate An Aerial Lift Trainer
Designate a qualified aerial lift operator to train and certify employees to use aerial lifts. The Aerial Lift Trainer Designation Form is included in the Aerial Lift Operator Training DVD Compliance Kit. Aerial lift trainers must be:

Conduct Aerial Lift Training
Aerial Lift Training consists of two important parts. Employees need to be trained on:

- Factors affecting stability
- Purpose of placards and decals
- Workplace inspections
- Rules & regulations
- Authorization to operate
- Operator warnings and instructions
- Use of fall protection
Once the classroom training is completed, the employees must complete a hands on operator training and evaluation. Use the included Aerial Lift Operator Certification Form to complete this evaluation.
